Spring is just around the corner, and I for one am anxiously awaiting the warmth of the summer months.
Congratulations and Thank You to Joe Dibble and his Staff for an awesome Valentine’s Day Steak and Lobster dinner, which they prepared and served restaurant style. Approximately 150 meals were served. There were a lot of compliments extended for the excellent meal, atmosphere, and great service provided.
Legionaries, your attending regular scheduled events such as our: steak fry, dollar burger night, taco night, seafood buffet, omelet breakfast and other Post special events such as; the Valentines Dinner, Casino trips, and the like, is very important to the Post and much needed. These functions help generate the funds which are needed to pay our everyday operating expenses, and enable us to provide the support to the Veterans Programs, Children/Youth, Community, and the Legions as a whole. Attendance by members has been low, so I’m asking all members to become involved for the Post sake. (Majority of participants attending special functions have been – S.A.L, Auxiliary and guests).
On January 10th
officers of our S.A.L., Auxiliary and Post attended an informative 10th
District Mid-Winter conference in
Our First Vice reports that we are right on schedule with membership. We are at 432 paid members to date putting us at 96% of Goal. We need all our unpaid members to send in their dues and help us make our goal of 450.
The Legion Birthday Dinner is scheduled for March 10th. Our 10th District Commander Tom Schottenbauer is our scheduled guest speaker.
Please check the enclosed Post events Calendar for upcoming scheduled Bands and Specials.
The Post will be closed on Easter Sunday – April 12th, 2009.

Think Spring!!
Hopefully we will only have a couple of months left of this snow and cold. It has been a long winter and many of us are ready for spring. If you need to get out, we would love to have you stop by the Post. We have many upcoming activities.
MEMBERSHIP: We are getting very close to our goal. As of our February meeting we have 280 members who have paid which is 93% of our goal. Our goal is 300 so we can achieve this. Remember, our dues help support the various Veterans programs and it is very important that we strive to reach our goal. Thank you so much for supporting this. If you have not paid your 2009 dues, please do so as soon as possible.
At our last Omelet breakfast the Auxiliary sponsored a bake
sale. We sold $377.00 worth of baked goods that day which is just
outstanding. Our goal was to sponsor this bake sale and use the proceeds
to support our troops who are in
Upcoming events: On March 10th, we will be having our birthday dinner for the American Legion. It is the Legion’s 90th birthday. Our social hour will be from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and following that we will have a short meeting. Dinner will be served after the meeting.
The S.A.L will be hosting the Omelet breakfast on March 15th. The cost is only $5.00 and breakfast is served from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Come and join us for a wonderful meal.
In April, the Omelet breakfast will be April 19th due to the Post being closed on Easter Sunday.
April 5th is our Ham Bingo event. Bingo will start right after the meat spin. We have 30 games that we will be playing.
Our 2nd Vice would like to know how many people would be interested in sharing their favorite recipes for a cookbook. If you are interested, please stop by the pull tab booth with your recipes. Terrie is collecting all the recipes and willing to work on this project if there is enough interest.
Sometimes in our rush, we overlook some important people who need us—our own Auxiliary members. There are many of you who cannot attend unit functions or meetings due to various reasons. If you would appreciate a visit from one of us from the Auxiliary, please give us a call at 763-427-6870.
Stay warm and safe and please keep our service members and families in your prayers.

S.A.L COMMANDER’S COLUMN
Good Day!
I would like to talk about the Sons of the American Legion, what we are all about, how we help our Post and support our Veterans.
The Sons are more than just membership. We work with the American Legion on all levels, by providing our support financially and physically in areas such as Post Activities, Veterans programs, Children and Youth, VA homes and Hospital volunteering. Over the years we have raised over $475,000 for a variation of Legion programs, one of which is the American Legion Child Welfare Foundation.
The Sons of the American Legion was established at Champlin American Legion in 1986, with just a handful of members. Our membership is now at 140. We show our support to the Post thru financial means, volunteering, hosting Omelet Breakfast, Fish Fry’s sponsoring Casino Bus Trips and other fund raisers.
We are currently co-hosting an overnight Black Bear Casino trip for April 4-5th, cost is $130.00 per couple – if you are interested, and information and signup sheets are available at the Post. During Lent, we will host several Fish Fry’s. Check the newsletter for dates.
If you (many of our Legion members are Dual members) or a family member is interested in joining our Organization, please contact myself, or any member of the Post Staff for information.
S.A.L. Commander
Jerry Henzel.
Many of you may not know that we at Post 600 care about your needs. We want to know if you are ill or if there has been a death. But we won’t know how we can help if we don’t get a call from you or a family member. So please contact either Mel Lewandowski at the Post or Dolores Witt (763-712-8524). Whether it’s to notify us of an upcoming surgery, funeral luncheon, or Color Guard information. We’re here to help you out.

It’s Time to Pray
It’s time to pray
To the God who watches o’er us,
It’s time to seek
His help without delay.
The world is dark,
For the clouds of war still threaten.
It’s time for all
If we would keep the
Flag of freedom flying,
Secure the peace
For which we all are crying,
It’s time to pray,
Our wrong and sin confessing,
It’s time for all
Enemies increase around us-
We can’t drop our guard.
Problems here at home confound us
In our own backyard.
Troubles unrelenting hound us,
Making living hard-
It’s time to pray!
It’s time for all

We need your Feedback!
Post 600 is considering being open and serving a Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving Day. This will be for Members and the local community members that are alone on Thanksgiving Day. We don’t know if it will be free, a donation or a small nominal charge. It will depend on the volume of responses we receive.
Also depending on the responses, we may include Shut –In meals that could be picked up by someone for the the Shut – In’s. We are not able to set up a delivery service.
We would like a response from the Members and community as to the feasibility and need for the Post serving a Thanksgiving Dinner. Please send an E-Mail to jim.winegarden@qwest.com or call the Post at 763-427-6870 and leave your name if you are interested in participating in a Thanksgiving meal. We will make a decision and notify everyone in the September newsletter.
